From tap to client: how to get more out of a trade fair or conference

Attending trade fairs and conferences is a serious investment. You put time, money and effort into travel, the stand, materials and the most valuable thing you have: your presence. But how do you make sure the investment pays off? The challenge isn't meeting people, it's turning a few minutes of conversation into clients.

If you still rely on paper business cards, you're probably leaving part of the result behind. It's time to stop seeing your business card as an expense and start seeing it as a working tool.

1. Treat your digital profile as a page that persuades

The power of the card isn't just in the card, it's in the page it leads to. That page isn't just a list of contact details, it's your presentation page. Before the event, think about what you want it to contain and tell us:

  • a clear call to action — instead of just your website address, add a button like “Book a 15-minute call”;
  • direct booking — a link to your calendar, so people can book a slot on the spot;
  • portfolio and materials — work samples, testimonials, a short intro video, things that don't fit on card stock;
  • professional links — LinkedIn, your company page, relevant networks.

Your profile should attract, not just inform.

2. Frictionless exchange: the contact is saved on the spot

The classic business card exchange is full of points where something gets lost: you search for the card, scribble something on the back that later can't be read, and then the card disappears. An NFC card removes all that. One tap on the other person's phone and your profile appears on their screen.

  • Nothing gets lost — the details go straight into the phone.
  • It looks professional — the gesture itself creates a memorable moment.
  • It's fast — less rummaging through pockets, more conversation.

3. What can be measured and what can't

With our business packs, usage statistics are included for every card: how many times it was tapped, how many different people opened it, the day-by-day trend (you can see the event itself), the country and the type of device. See exactly what we measure.

What no NFC card can tell you is who tapped it. The card opens a web address and nothing more; it doesn't transmit the name or phone number of the person. We'd rather say this up front than promise something that doesn't exist. If you need the details of interested people, the solution is a form on your profile page where they leave their details themselves, with their consent.

4. Follow up fast: strike while the iron is hot

One of the biggest losses after an event is following up late or badly. With accurate details in digital form, you can:

  • send a personalised email right away: “It was a pleasure meeting you at [event]. As promised, here is the [material] we talked about.”;
  • sort your contacts into categories, even during the event;
  • move them straight into your sales software, without typing anything by hand.

Following up on time and on topic greatly increases the chances that a conversation turns into an order.

What it really costs

Think about what attending a single major trade fair costs you. If a card helps you avoid losing one or two good clients — clients you would have lost because of a misplaced card or a late follow-up — it pays for itself, several times over, during its lifetime.
